This is one of my favorite immune boosting comfort tonics. Turmeric root is part of the ginger family and most known for the active ingredient curcumin. Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years.
It's benefits as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, antibacterial, and antiviral are amazing. Turmeric helps strengthen the immune system, supports healthy digestion, supports liver function and is a natural antioxidant fighting free radical damage in the body.
I combine it with healthy fats and black pepper which enhances it's bioavailability in the body. Turmeric is potent and is something I like to add in to my regimen daily. I use it in smoothies, cooking, and of course this warm drink. While it's primary benefits aren't as a sleep relaxant, I find that it really helps me to unwind. Focused relaxation I call it.
1 cup almond or coconut mylk
1 1/2 Tsp turmeric
1 Tsp cinnamon
1 Tsp ginger
1 Tsp real maple syrup
Pinch of pepper
Put all ingredients in a saucepan.
Simmer for about 5 minutes. Do not boil!
Pour in a mug and enjoy!
